Gear wheel grinding machine with rolling arc slide - has size of wheels ground not limited by gear wheel base circle

The grinding machine consists of a frame on which a roll arc slide can be moved to and fro. A workpiece spindle (4) is mounted in the roll arc (8) and is oscillated by the slide. The end of the work spindle opposite to the workpiece is connected to a dividing head. The roll arc can be interchanged. The workpiece is oscillated while it engages with the grinding wheel. The roll arc is oscillated by a metal strip (9) which is wound round it. The strip ends (40, 41) are passed over two sets of rollers (36, 37, 38, 39) after which they are attached to the roll arc slide. The roller sets are mounted on two levers (30, 31). Gear teeth are cut at the end of the levers which engage with worms (34). The levers can be swung over to tighten the strip, by rotating the worms.
