The timing system for a radio or television receiver is coupled to a display unit, which has an edge scale unit marked in hours, at least 12 hrs. in duration. Shorter time markings are given for the quarter hours, or for shorter periods. The data carrying material is of printed paper, cardboard or plastics. The associated circuit equipment comprises an endless belt drive (20) for the data carrier (1) which is fed past a reader (21) connected by an electrical lead (22) to a drive unit (23). A frequency generator (24) controls both the drive unit and a digital clock (28), in this in turn a time control unit (26). The latter regulates both the switching unit (34) for the data marker and the endless belt drive unit (30).
