Rubber mixt. vulcanisation by poly:alkylol phenol derivs. - with metal cpds. and chlorine- or bromine-contg. di:phenyl derivs. as halogen donors
Rubber mixt. vulcanisation in the presence of di- or polyalkylol cpds. of phenols, as curing agents, metal cpds. and halogen donors, takes place by using, as halogen donors, 0.1-10 (pref. 0.5-5) esp. 1-3 wt. % w.r.t. rubber of =1 diphenyl deriv. having formula (I): (where a is a covalent bond of -CH2- gp. opt. substd. by 1 or 2 Me gps.; x is Cl or Br and Y is Cl, Br or H) pref. 4,4'-bis-(bromomethyl-diphenyl). The vulcanisates are based in tyre mfr. and in prodn. of brake linings, hoses gaskets, shoe-soles and rubber articles. (I) cause quicker vulcanisation, allow high degrees of crosslinking, have a feeble smell and are easily worked into the rubber compsns.
