Controlling combustion of reaction gases leaving steel converter - by reducing gap between converter and gas collection hood when carbon mon:oxide evolution increase, using movable ring duct
The partial combustion of reaction gases leaving a steel converter is controlled to compensate for brief variations in gas evolution and to prevent pulsation building up in the gas system which includes gas collection and cooling, dust extn., and suction fans with pressure control. With increased evolution of CO, the gap between the top of the converter and the bottom of the gas collection hood can be closed by a ring duct which can be lowered or lifted, and a lower combustion air factor employed. When variations in gas evolution are indicated by pressure changes, more atmospheric air can be sucked in, or a counter-pressure created by injecting a compressed gas. Accurate control of gas pressure in the gas system is obtd.
