A method is used for real time processing of the received signal of a sideways looking rotor. It includes transformation of its video signals into a directly usable map display. The processing system is designed to use currently available technology without necessitating use of a data film with optical correlator. A digital fourier processor (1) is used for the transformation and operates on the fast fourier transform principle. The transformation proceeds on mutually overlapping data blocks successively occuring during movement of the radar along a target region. The overlap intervals are chosen to be large enough to ensure incorporation of a sufficient part of the doppler trains of the targets at the block boundaries in the transformation.
