A screen mat (3) periodically changes in undulation and is provided with waves which run at right angles to the feed direction of the material and are caused by driving rods (1) which are mounted beneath the mat but firmly connected by the upper narrow faces which are also fitted with vibratory projections (6) which project beyond the upper face of teh mat (3). In this way where momentary interruptions occur in the filter cake of the material to be dried the fluid can drain away more easily and to a great extend. These temporary break-ups in the cake are caused by the vibratory projections (6) in such a way that the proportion of particles also falling through the mat is kept to a min.
