Sweeper system for settling ponds has a sweeper device which is mounted on a carriage above the pond with pusher or suction device. Its height can be adjusted by a positioner. It has a detector to measure the liquid pressure which is connected to the positioner. If the pressure exceeds a specified value, the sweeper is raised to the next position. This continues until the pressure is at the desired value. Between two positioner impulses of the sensor an adjustable time is established during which contact between the sensor and the positioner is broken. The pressure range on the sensors can be adjusted. System is for clearing out settling ponds such as sand settlers, thickeners etc. Avoids the problem of many sweepers that follow a wavy path over the sludge bed due to pressure variations. The sweeper is less prone to upsets and has general application to all types of pond and settler.
