Knitted bath towel which is laterally stretchable and non-stretchable in the warp yarn direction has the warp yarns made of monofil thermoplastic yarns of 30-80 denier (pref. 50 denier nylon yarns) and the weft yarns made of multifil crimped yarns of 150-400 denier (pref. nylon or polyester crimped yarns 300 and 200 denier, respectively). Each warp yarn forms a loop chain and the weft yarns are interlinked by loops passed in staggered manner through warp yarn loops spaced two or more warp yarns apart. Pref. the weft yarns are interknitted in two alternating gps. of which one is made of nylon and the other of polyester yarns, each gp. contg. four multifil yarns.
