The single cylinder two stroke engine has a one piece cast cylinder head with cooling fins. The crank case is in two sections and extends from the crank shaft bearings to encompass the cylinder walls and form transfer channels (13). The cylinder has a surrounding step (3) to engage with a corresponding groove formed in the crank case halves (9). The transfer channels are cast with the housing and open towards the cylinder axis to align with transfer ports in the cylinder section. The transfer channels are entirely in cast and require no machining. The crank case housing extension has air cooling fins.
