A double-lens mixer comprises two parallel, water-colled shafts, revolving in opposite directions and equipped on the inlet side with a feed screw and on the outlet side with a blocking screw, a self-cleaning double-lens system being incorporated between the inlet and outlets sides. Each lens is composed of two parts welded to the shaft, and each of these parts has a dividing slit in the upper region of the lens and on the following side relative to the direction of rotation. The lens is thus divided into four separate parts each being firmly welded to the shaft at the centre. In the region near the outer parts or tips, transverse bolts or pins may be provided as stiffeners. Used partic. for high-temp. mixing of the coke prods., where a sudden stoppage to the supply of the hot mixt. can result in sudden cooling of the lenses due to the cooling water continuing to flow through the hollow shaft. By forming each lens of four separate parts with expansion gaps between them, a much higher degree of acceptance of thermal loading is possible.
