A sensor travels over the impression and the up and down movements are recorded in a curve. Mathematical characteristic magnitudes such as mean values, differential and integral measures of the curve are evaluated. The roughness of the skin is objectively assessed and significant differences in the skin surface before and after the treatment of the skin can be recognised for assessing the effect of the treatment agent. The sensor is moved in several radial directions over the impression in relation to a point. The evaluated characteristics magnitudes are examined for a certain normal distribution and the distribution functions are subjected to the significant comparisons and the existence of variances.
