The hydrostatic drive for a vehicle operates in a closed circuit with a pump acting as a primary unit and one hydromotor being the secondary unit. A feed pump sucks fluid from a tank, the pump output being connected to both conduits (3, 4) of the closed circuit (1, 2, 3, 4). These conduits are connected to the supply tank (14) by a secondary suction conduit (21, 23) which contains a valve (22, 25) which opens into the circuit conduits (3, 4). To the delivery line (6) of the feed pump a pressure feeder (20) is connected. In the feed conduit (6) of the pump (5) and between the latter and the pressure feeder, is a check valve (7).
