A web used as flexible plant growing base, opt. having seeds and/or nutrients embedded in it, comprises =1 layer of a friable plant growth substrate (1) e.g. peat, humus opt. contg. usual additive such as 'Perlite' RTM; and =1 water-permeable top layer in which there are fibres or threads anchored with penetrate the substrate as far as its oppsite surface and so hold the 2 layers together. The composite web. is easy to transport and/or stack. It is inexpensive to mfr. and allows plants to be grown independently of their final destination.
