The house or similar building extends for some height below the surface of the earth. It has only one gable wall, straight or at the most only slightly bent or curved, while the ground is gently sloped upwards from the surrounding terrain to the upper edge of the gable, forming an earth covering over the entire building. Between a quarter and a third of the mean height of the building can be below ground level. In front of the gable there can be a terrace running for most of its length at least, and between 0.7 and 1 m. below ground level. The houses can have their gables aligned in the same direction, so as to integrate into the park-type estate.
