Measuring surface tension of surface active solns. - using du=Nouy method with PTFE containers and variable area

The surface tension of surface-active solns. is measured by the Lecomte du Nuoy method. The containers for the solns. are made of a material with lower surface energy, (e.g. PTFE) the necessary surface area of the soln. under test is determined using a device to determine the relationship between the force P and the surface area, the necessary area being characterised by constant relationship P (R), where (R) is the radius of the measuring container. The method produces reproducible results.
