The universal joint is used for transmission of torque from one shaft to another. The joint ensures constant angular velocity on movement transmission. Relatively high torques are transmitted and the joint has long life. The shaft ends have bridges of tensioned fibres for transmitting torque. The bride has a large number of parallel fibres running diagonally across the gap. The fibres are held in place by a bonding agent. The carbon or graphite fibres are connected to disc shaped end fittings on shaft ends. The fibres are connected at an angle from one joint on one disc to another point on the other disc rim.
