The jewellery manufacturing process uses a ring in which transverse grooves are milled at set intervals. In the centre between two adjacent grooves a radial bore is drilled so as to form four setting pins, and a seat for a precious stone. The pins are then used to secure the stone in the seat. A continuous groove can be milled in the ring periphery, of the same depth as the transverse ones, so as to form setting pins at the points of intersection, after which the bore is drilled at each such point to form the seat. The thickness of the ring can be selected to match the stone dimensions, and the transverse grooves can be at regular intervals.
