The automatic steering control device for a ship or boat has a section generating a difference signal proportional to the difference between the instantaneous actual course and the required course. A circuit generates a control signal which increases (or decreases) w.r.t. a constant value when the difference signal is generated, and decreases (or increases) when the control signal is greater than the difference signal. A comparator compares the difference signal with the control signal. An actuating relay is operated by the comparator's output signal. A drive moves a control mechanism by the actuating relay's output signal.
