The tower crane has a tower which can be detached from its base stand. A climbing frame (9) together with its superstructure and climbing mechanism (13) is held on an associated tower section (2) so that movement is possible. The struts (15) for the climbing frame (9) each have overhanging members (17) at their lower ends. Each column projects above the base stand (1) and is held by its upper or inner end on the climbing frame (9) so that the coupling can be dismantled.
