The construction of a rope with a quadratic cross section has a bulked knitted structure of untwisted coarse threads with a gauge of =1.5 ktex, with the right side of the stitches forming at least two sides of the rope surface. The system gives a rope with a relatively low mass and large thickness, with a braided character which can be patterned and keyed without loss of strength. The rope is made at a high productivity rate in a single-stage operation.
