The directional photosensitive detector, for positioning-devices in satellites, consists of a semiconductor substrate (1) with a semiconducting island (3) embedded in its upper surface end of opposite conduction type. The top surface of the island is covered with an anti-reflection layer (4) and the bottom surface of the s-c substrate with a metal plate-electrode (6). Contact to the island is made by a metal strip (7) between island and anti-reflection layer. The island is wedge-shaped to give the detector its directional properties. In another form the island may be constructed from four identical triangles separated from one another and together making a square. In the latter case each triangle has its own electrode end the cetre of the source where the triangles apices meet is cut away to form a square or cross.
