Hot rolling mill for slabs - where slab heating furnace is followed by welding unit to make continuous material

In a hot rolling mill with a pusher furnace for heating the slabs, between the pusher furnace and the cogging train a welding set is located for the butt-welding of the tail end of a slab to the front end of the following slab. When several rolling lines are used, the slabs can be joined together on each rolling line. The appts. converts individual slabs into continuous material, thereby substantially reducing the time required for the cogging or roughing. The prodn. capacity of the cogging train is increased and the mfr. of short lengths eliminated; furthermore, there is no wastage due to cropping the ends of the slabs.
