1496339 Automatic circuit breakers AIRPAX ELECTRONICS Inc 19 Dec 1974 [23 April 1974] 54928/74 Heading H1N An automatic circuit breaker comprising a moulded plastics housing with an operating handle connected by a toggle mechanism to a moving contact 38, has an arc chamber within the housing and surrounding the contacts 38, 54, defined by five plates, e.g. 56, 92, 96, of heat insulating material with a metal plate 94 on a sixth side of the chamber. A wire mesh screen 70 may cover a venting opening of the casing. Two opposite insulating walls of the chamber support arc splitter plates 58 of differing thicknesses and lengths, the thicker plates 98, lying adjacent the stationary contact 54 and metal plate 94 carried thereby. The venting opening of the housing is defined by fingers of opposite halves of the housing lying in parallel (not coincident) planes (Fig. 4, not shown). For use where inflammable vapour may be present, wire mesh 70 is replaced by a continuation of the adjacent insulating plate (Fig. 12, not shown).
