Kalkm, Prunus Lusitanica L., or a plant of the genus Prunus Africana, notably Prunus Africana (Hook) F. Kalkm, or Pygeum Africanum (Hook), the plant is treated with a lipid to cause extraction of a fraction of the plant, the lipidic material thus obtained being treated with an alkali which reacts with the fatty acids present in the material, the unreacted lipidic material, which contains the therapeutic product, being thereafter subjected to solvent extraction with a hydrocarbon, a chlorinated hydrocarbon, mixtures of each of these or mixtures of both whereby the therapeutic product is obtained.
