Coating strips applied to support sheet by airbrush - after temporarily masking wetted regions to give exact boundaries

A method of coating support sheets, such as plastics or metal sheets, with strip-shaped coating areas possessing exactly defined boundaries consists of first wetting the support sheet in those areas where there is to be no coating with a liq. in strip shape, then applying masking strips onto the wetted regions, pref. right across their width, opt. pressing these masking strips on, and then applying the coating by the air brush application system; after the coating has dried the masking strips are removed. Pref. masking strip matls. are plastics, esp. PVC, polyesters, polyolefins, and partic. transparent shees as "CELLOPHNAE" (RTM). The liq. used for the first coating of the support sheet is pref. one which does not dissolve either that sheet or the masking strips, esp. water, partic. demineralised water. Pref. masking strip thicknesses are 10-100(25-50) mu. Exactly defined boundaries are obtd. without difficulty, and the masking strips can easily be removed later.
