The mixed ester of formula (I) is a new cpd. which can be obtained by reacting the Li, Na or K salt of clofibric acid (2-(p-chlorophenoxyl)-2-methylpropionic acid) with ethylene cholohydrin and reacting the resulting hydroxyethyl ester with nicotinoyl chloride in the presence of a base. (I) is a hypolipidaemic agent.
