The display is used for news bulletins etc, and employs a number of adjacent display units (L1-L3) each with a matrix of light elements, which can be individually excited. The control circuit comprises a first unit (US) receiving the information relating to the characters or symbols to be displayed and supplying a succession of binary signal trains to a write amplifier (AI). The latter supplies the binary signal trains in parallel to a memory matrix (MEM) storing the information characters, with at least one read amplifier (AL) connected to the memory (MEM) and supplying a series of cascade registers (REG) via a parallel-series converter (CPS). The registers are respectively connected via decoders (DEC) to the various display units (L1-L3). A clock source (H) synchronises the converter (CPS) and the registers (REG).
