Waste receptacle for a refuse compactor comprises a handle (10) for carrying the receptacle, and a tapered cylindrical or conical sheath (12) forming the side walls (18) of the receptacle with a larger dia. open end and a smaller dia. open end which receives the handle means. A removable bottom locking member (62) cooperates with the larger dia. end includes locking means (64, 66) for attaching it to the sheath to hold the compacted waste therein when the receptacle is carried. The locking means are pref. disposed around the periphery of the bottom locking member and within its outermost edge.
