The rotary brush unit is particularly for washing cars, having an external housing inside which a tangental jet is aimed at a bladed wheel mechanically driving a bowl-shaped brush. A peripheral collector (43) extends for at least a quarter of the way round the outside of the bladed wheel (22) opposite the jet, and directs all the water from the latter towards the centre of the brush (40). A ball-and-socket joint can be provided between a telescopic supporting sleeve and the housing. There can also be a bowl-shaped collector, preventing the water running along the handle.
