is prepd. by reacting an S-contg. reagent (I) with a C-contg. reagent under heat-activity of a low temp. plasma. (I) and/or (II) is/are heated to reaction temp. by flow of low temp. plasma generated from S vapours, H2S, SO2, O2, N2, H2, halogens and/or CH4, while mass temp. median of reaction products at highest conversion is 1200-2500 degrees K. By using low temp. plasma flow, having a mass temp. median of 2000-20000 degrees K, as conc. energy source, CS2 can be prepd. from opt. gaseous, liquid or solid (I) and (II), including organic waste products. Reaction may take 10-3 to 10-1 secs. CS2 yields reach 93-95 mol.%. Reaction may take place outside electrical discharge zone. Process temp., energy supply and reagent consumption are easily controlled, allowing automation of process and an improvement in sanitary-hygienic working conditions.
