Electric welding tongs comprises two jaws one of which has a machined surface while the other has an unmachined surface. The two jaws may comprise two planar machined or unmachined contact surfaces, at the end of each of which is a stop of variable width of which the surface is machined or unmachined and which is offset from the stop on the other jaw. One jaw may be of the crocodile type, while the other has one or more stops of variable machined or unmachined surface area, or each jaw may have one or more stops of variable machined or unmachined surface area.
