Ski brake for skis with safety fixings - brings ski to rest after emergency release from foot of skier using plates with teeth which dig into snow

The device is intended for use with skis fitted with safety fixings which release the ski (1) when the skier foot is subjected to excessive force. The released ski can be a hazard to other skiers unless brought rapidly to rest. The ski brake consists of a plate (2) pivoted on a vertical bolt (3) in the ski (1) and forced to rotate by a torsion spring (15) as soon as the skier's foot leaves the ski. the ends of the plate (2) carry spring loaded flaps (6) and (7) provided with teeth dig into the snow when the plate (2) rotates through 90 deg. in the horizontal plane. The catch (30) retains the plate (2) until the skier's foot leaves the ski.
