Automatically threading a spinning or twisting ring traveller - double carriage mounted arms push thread into positioned traveller

An assembly for automatically threading an end of yarn into the traveller of a ring spinning or twisting frame, includes a first carriage on a stationary oblong frame movable on guide rods to and from the ring on which the traveller is positioned centrally beforehand, a second carriage mounted on lengthways running guides secured to the first carriage, and two long arms with hooked ends straddling the ring, linked by a spring pulling them together, and assembled on a horizontal shaft supported by the second carriage. A separate drive moves the shaft and the arms via a rack, through a predetermined angle to the axis of shaft, whilst the arms can further be turned on pivots at their near ends, on axes vertical to the long axis of shaft, so that they open and close with a tongs-like action, as they swing on the shaft. On the first carriage, a pressure cylinder imparts reciprocating motion, and serves, during the first section of the forward motion, to regulate the movement of the arms, lowering them, and effecting the forward motion of the second carriage during the second section of the forward moition. There is a cam arrangement effecting the opening and closing of the arms. Automates the threading of the raveller, working in conjunction with the positioning device described in DT 2606553.
