The safety boot or shoe (1), which has previously been formed by moulding, is mounted on a core (4). On the exterior surface of this core, are hollows (5, 5a) of the required shape and position to give protection to the front of the leg, the top of the foot and the ankles. The boot is placed in a mould (6) and polyurethane foam is injected directly into the hollows through appropriate channels (7) through the core. The foam can be injected between a lining and the outside of the boot. The protection can be formed at the same time as the boot is moulded.
