The self propelled marine barge is rectangular and symmetrical about a longitudinal and lateral axis. The load platform (1) has a floor (2) rigidified by a longitudinal box section (3) carrying a spaced transverse beams (4). The structure is surrounded by an inflatable collar (5) with a lower skirt (6). Fans (7) to inflate the skirt are mounted vertically fore and aft with associated ductwork (8,9). The control decks (10) are elevated fore and aft while the central area is the load platform for containers (12). The barge is moved by diesel engines and propellors. The central box section has a lower inflatable rail (15) for resting on the ground and a ring beam (19) gives rigidity against torsion when resting on uneven surfaces.
