The column-type vehicle jack has two or more columns, up and down which trucks travel under the action of the hoist mechanism. Each truck has a horizontal arm swinging on a vertical axis into a service position engaging under the vehicle, and into a rest position folded against the column. Means are included for locking the arm, at least in the service position, typically in the form of a coil spring (11) fitting over a sleeve (5) fixed to the truck, the arm pivot axis passing through the sleeve. The internal spring diameter is slightly less than that of the sleeve, one end (18) being secured to the arm (1), while the other is free (14), and acts as a release arm for the spring, to allow arm movement.
