The endive roots are placed in trays which are passed in succession through a hydroponic growing liquid in a bath. The trays are made from wire and are suspended by hooks from rods. These are connected to a vertically moving chain at each end, driven by an electric motor. The chain are supported in a wheeled frame, the hydroponic liquid bath and its pump (12) eing in the base of this. The bath has upper (4a) and lower (4b) compartments, an overflow (21) regulating the correct dipping level. Heaters (18) and a thermostat (6) are provided, the sequences being preprogrammed. A plastic cover fits over the unit.
