On opening the sack is which the parachute is folded, an extractor parachute (12) deploys the longerons (10, 11) of the main planar parachute. An auxiliary inflation parachute (5), held by slings (17a) to a pin (3), is also released; this being connected to to the longerons through offices (6, 7) provided with non-return valves (8, 9). Under free fall the longerons are inflated through the valves and become rigid. A halyard (15) is attached to the folded horns (16) of one of the longerons and to the pin and also temporarily to an inflation indicator (30) which releases the halyard when a certain inflation pressure is reached. When this occurs the horn of thelongeron unfolds, snapping open the pin and releasing the rest of the slings for the main parachute.
