Machine tool for railway track - has portal type milling heads operated by five axis numerical control

The machine is used for machining track for railways and can carry out all work on a rail. It is of modular construction, having its base (3, 4) built up by bolting together sufficient modules. Machining is effected by milling heads, these being mounted on a portal type column over the bed. This column is mobile along the machine, the heads being adjustable vertically and transversely. The rails are clamped (6) on the base and the machining operations are controlled by a five axis numerical control system fitting with tool changer heads. Chips are evacuated by a screw flight (7) under the base.
