Treating sludge from dairy effluent water treatment - by heating to destroy toxic microorganisms, for use in animal food

Sludge from water-treatment stations, used for treating waste water from dairies and cheese-making industries, is recovered by heating the sludges at =80 degrees C. to destroy toxic microorganisms and to modify the protein structure to improve its disgestability. After the heat treatment, lactose and mineral materials are added, particulately lactoserum and esp. lactoserum which has already been impoverished in at least one of either noble proteins or lactose. The prod. is used to prepare animal foods. The process provide a better outlet for the material which contains 1-10% protein material cf. the present use which is by disposal in agriculture.
