A weft feeder for a shuttleless loom of the type in which the weft is inserted into the shed by a lance, has a support point for a supply spool from which the weft is drawn off and fed forward positively. The length of weft between the feeder and the inserter is supported by a compensating arm controlling the circuit for starting and stopping the feeder motor, and for pref. also for controlling its speed. Guides present the weft correctly to the clamp of the insertion lance. The compensating arm pivots at a fixed point in a vertical plane passing through the axis along which the weft is inserted. It is positioned above the feeder and the plane of the fabric, and carries guides for the weft. The tension applied when the weft is inserted, pivots the compensator arm which acts on the feed motor circuit. The motion of the arm is limited by two stops; the arm being pulled against one in the position of rest by a spring. The tip of the arm may be flexible or it may be rigid throughout its length. A sec. compensator attached flexibly to a fixed point beneath the main compensator, enables the weft to follow an undulating path. Appts. delivers the weft, esp. partic. types of weft such as ribbons of rubber or plastic, chenille and slub yarns, etc. at a constant tension as low as possible, and in the case of ribbons, perfectly flat, to the insertion lance of a shuttles loom.
