A tubular framework is fixed to the rear quarters of an animal and carries a single-channel radio transmitter. The latter is energised by the actuation of two reed switches by a hollow member which is tilted against flat springs when calving commences. The transmitter actuates the relay of a remote receiver to sound a warning bell. The hollow member matches the contours of the animal, and comprises transverse bars or a grille. The member is tilted by solid matter leaving the urinary tract, and operates the switches when tilted by 40 deg.
