The trough is designed for growing plants outdoors to provide displays. It is made of asbestos cement and has its top edge (9) curved downwards to shade the sides. This may also form a location for a tubular stand. Its base has a recess at one end, forming a well. In this is fitted a float controlled water supply valve (10), maintaining the water level (12) constant in the base. A curved and perforated grill (11) provides aeration space, the soil being on top and contacting the water along the sides at base level. The water supply (8, 17) may include a fertilizer proportioning unit (16).
