Surge suppressor with series of spark gaps - has voltage dependent resistors and ignition path via series network parallel to one or more spark gaps

The surge suppressor consists of several spark gaps in series and voltage dependent resistors providing the main path. There is an ignition path partly parallel to the main path which ignites the spark gaps. The ignition paths (6) consists of a series network (7), a voltage dependent resistor (9) and a capacitor (8) which is parallel to one or more of the spark gaps. The ignition path is parallel to a min. of 10 per cent and a max. of 50 per cent of all the spark gaps. Each branch of the series network is connected in parallel to a spark gap. The voltage dependent resistor behaves as an exponential function, where the exponent is greater than 5 and smaller than 20.
