The colour alignment device is for use when printing on light material, having a single reciprocating mechanism (41) comprising a horizontal cylinder (42) bearing against the material (4) and mounted on a support (43) moving up and down. The support is under a movable stop (46, 47), in turn held under a constant pressure onto a fixed stop (48). The support is held under the movable stop while the tension in the material remains between upper and lower threshold values (TM, Tm). It moves downwards clear of the support when tension falls below the lower value (Tm), determined by the weight of cylinder and support, and lifts the movable stop off the fixed one when it rises above the higher value (TM). The latter is determined by sum of the weight of cylinder and support and the constant pressure holding the movable stop onto the fixed one.
