Construction of retaining walls - using prefabricated blocks and in-situ concrete applied in layers

The method of construction for retaining walls uses identical prefabricated blocks which are made to dimensions appropriate for a particular wall and have the form of a truncated prism with one vertical and one inclined face. The wall can be constructed with either the inclined or vertical face on the outside. A foundation is prepared for the wall, then one row of blocks is set out on the concrete, the space between the blocks and the shuttering (3) for the back face of the wall being fitted with in-situ concrete. This procedure is repeated, with another row being set out on the first, until the wall is complete. The blocks can be provided with holes for lifting lugs for easy handling and positioning by crane.
