Tension leveller for continuous metal strip - has feedback applied through electrohydraulic converter to tension motor epicyclically geared to drive rolls

A tension levelling machine for the continuous flattening of metal strip such as aluminium, consists of a set of entry rolls, a work station and a set of exit rolls. The main drive is taken from the motor and a system of differential and epicyclic gears to the exit roll. A hydraulic pump with variable output is connected to a hydraulic motor and provides a conventional speed control. The gear drives a shaft through a clutch to the shaft driving the inlet roll. The inlet and exit rolls are connected by epicyclic gear trains. Tension is provided by hydraulic motors which are driven by the electrohydraulic converter. The output is governed by the pressure measuring roll and the hydraulic pump driven itself by the main motor. An auxiliary pump provides tension when the machine is stopped.
