Industrial instrumentation to measure a process parameter and transmit the result to a remote point without wired connections. Pressure, temp. etc. can be sensed in a can of prod. being processed in a rotary steriliser. The sensed signal produces a voltage or current proportional to the measured parameter and this is converted into impulses which may be luminous, magnetic, electromagnetic or acoustic. The internal between successive pulses, i.e. the period, is related to the value of the parameter measurement. A receiver reconverts the periods of the transmitted impulses into a reading of the parameter measurement. Sensed signals are pref. passed to a transformer feeding a pulse generator. The transformer is pref. switched alternately from sensed signal input to a reference voltage input. The reference voltage is simultaneously applied to the receiver so that period evaluation is related to the timing of reference voltages.
