The pressure relief valve (5) for interstage control in aeroengine compressors consists of a hemispherical casing (5b) with a flat diametral facing (5a) with a pressure communicating hole (10). The valve is mounted on the wall (4a) dividing the high pressure region from the low pressure region with a hinge and pin (6). Two arms (12a) on either side of the valve connected the hinge by bolts to the valve seating and serve to locate two operating cylinders (11). The cylinders have arms (19) linking the pistons to valve operating levers (18). The geometry of the operating links ensures that the pistons have a high mechanical advantage over the pressure forces which act normally on the valve hemisphere thus allowing a small seating pressure and a lighter casing thickness.
