The natural draught dry cooling tower has banks of coolers (A) around the base (2) of the tower (1) and, if necessary, its upper part (3). The liquid or steam contained in them is cooled by the air flow over their surfaces. This air flow, and the cooling capacity, can be modified by control flaps (4) fitted across the tower outlet. Additional control is provided by fitting flaps over the tower air inlet. Two or more flaps are used, with pivots (5) along one side to open upwards or downwards. The flaps may also have pivots places along their central axes for balanced operation.
